Application for CBC Studios Talent Development Program 2025 – Toronto Based

CBC Studios in Toronto is offering a six-week (can be non-consecutive) paid talent development opportunity for candidates from equity-deserving groups. The successful candidates will be mentored and trained by CBC Studios professionals at the Toronto Broadcasting Centre. The training will ensure the development of practical skills in a one-on-one environment and is designed to develop future employees of the CBC.
** Graduates of the program will have an opportunity and skills to apply for short term and ongoing employment with the CBC.
What do you bring as a candidate?
Candidates should have some prior production experience and skills in one or more of the craft areas listed below. You have the flexibility to commit to six weeks of training that will include shift work. You have a strong desire to apply your new skills within the CBC after the program is complete. You are an individual belonging to one or more of the following underrepresented groups: First Nations, Inuit, Métis, Black, racialized people, people with disabilities, LGBTQ2+, and women in technical roles.
CRAFT DESCRIPTIONS
Media Technician - Associate Director - This successful candidate for this position has a good understanding of television production with some control room experience. The position will be assigned primarily in a state of the art automated digital control room. The Associate Director is responsible for timing the show and communicating show elements using a standardized method, along with other duties. You will be interacting with talent and working with a team of dedicated professionals delivering daily news programming. Bilingual in French is an strong asset for this position.
Media Technician - Lighting - The successful candidate for this position possesses a good understanding of lighting principles across various production environments. You have experience in hands-on installation and focusing of various lighting fixtures, and a general knowledge of electrical power connection and distribution. You are eager to learn more about lighting technology and to develop proficiency in creating and executing various lighting effects to bring creative visions to life. You demonstrate a consistent commitment to maintaining the highest safety standards in your work. Prior safety training such as Working at Heights certification is an asset.
Media Technician - Audio - The successful candidate for this position has a love for all things audio related. You will be responsible for assisting the lead audio technician (A1) in delivering high quality audio in both live and taped productions. . This role involves setting up, operating and maintaining audio equipment, ensuring optimal sound mixes, providing sound reinforcement, managing audio routing systems, and capturing/playing back audio content with excellent fidelity. Working from Heights certification and knowledge of wireless intercom systems is an asset.
Media Technician - Generalist (Digital Media Hub Operator) - The Digital Hub Technician is responsible for the technical operation and monitoring of broadcast equipment within the Sports Digital Hub environment. This role involves real-time switching of video and audio sources, manipulation of audio signals, camera framing adjustments, and ensuring the smooth execution of both live and taped productions for social media platforms. You will be able work both independently and with a production team to achieve desired results. Directing experience is an asset.
