Water Operator-in-Training (OIT) Program

Program begins January 19th, 2026 on Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory - 274 Hwy 49, Deseronto, ON

Aboriginal Labour Force Development Circle are seeking interested INDIGENOUS participants for this 7 week job readiness program & encourages Indigenous youth and women to apply.

This program addresses the critical training gaps in First Nation communities with limited access to clean drinking water by supporting the training of participants to support proper operation, maintenance, and oversight of water treatment plants located on-reserve.

An Operator-in-Training (OIT) is an entry-level certification that allows individuals to begin working in a water treatment system while gaining the hands-on experience required to advance in the field. With an OIT license, participants can work under supervision and accumulate the one year of practical experience necessary to qualify for the Class 1 Water Treatment Operator certification.

This program is ideal for Indigenous individuals currently working at water treatment plants or those interested in pursuing a career in water treatment. Funded by Indigenous Services Canada, ALFDC will train up to 12 participants through the Water Treatment Operator-in-Training (OIT) Program.
