Project Sponsor:  Native Women’s Resource Centre —  Housing Outreach Initiative

April 1, 2014 to March 31, 2015

Description: The objectives and goals of the NWRC Project are to build bridges between the NWRC, local agencies and community stakeholders to ensure Aboriginal women, girls and their families are provided with culturally appropriate support and services to address their housing needs.   The HOI is founded on the understanding that a stable living arrangement is needed to support health, education and employment opportunities for aboriginal people.  Therefore the HOI aligns well with the HPS in that new supports and linkages are created to develop longer term solutions to address housing issues.

And, the HOI will use an innovative and horizontal approach to introduce aboriginal women and children to educational, parenting and employment options while simultaneously supporting stable housing options.  Ultimately improving their (and their families) quality of life.

April 1, 2011 to March 31, 2012

Description: The objectives and goals of the NWRC Project is to provide nutritious meals for our clients, community members and program participants.  Also, to coordinate all shopping for daily meals and events by having a certified experienced cook to provide on-going training to our cook trainee.  Food is as important as the programs we run at NWRC because as we cook we feed the spirit and minds of our women and children, we share and come together around the food and meals that are feeding our bodies.  This past year we have seen an increase in the # of women  accessing our meal programs, going from an average of 25 community members per day, to well over 45 community members per day.
